Detroit Mercy's Master of Science in Applied Data Analytics Program is a 30-credit-hour-program that is designed to uniquely position graduates as employment ready in a growing and versatile field. From e-commerce, to business, to government, to health care, organizations are turning to data science to understand their customers, improve efficiency and deliver targeted results. Detroit Mercy’s program is unique in its emphasis on the application of knowledge and skills in the area of data analytics.

Classes are offered at our McNichols Campus in Detroit and graduate classes are available online with added flexibility of learning at your convenience and finishing within one academic year.


Graduate students: 

The Department of Economics is pleased to announce the availability of Graduate Assistant (GA) positions, available in Fall and Winter semesters. Assistantships offer graduate students the opportunity to apply skills and knowledge while receiving financial support. GAs serve as a support-person to a faculty's teaching assignments and/or help faculty on their research. However, the GAs will NOT perform the teaching duties for the faculty.

    Economics Major - Bachelor of Arts

    The Bachelor of Arts with a major in economics entails the academic study of economic analysis with a strong foundation in the theory and application of economic principles. Within the context of a liberal arts education, the program provides you with a deeper knowledge of history, institutions and world economy, and prepares you to think analytically and critically about moral and ethical issues in the realm of economics. The degree allows a wide range of theoretical and applied aspects, which prepares you for a career in research or further study toward a graduate or professional degree. 

    The credit hours earned for the completion of the major in economics may not be counted toward the completion of the major in financial economics, or for the minors in economics or financial economics.

    To obtain this undergraduate degree, the student must fulfill the requirements of the University core curriculum, the requirements for the 33-credit-hour program major and have completed a minimum of 120 credit hours. Applicants must meet University of Detroit Mercy entrance requirements. Transfer students must have a minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.0 to be considered for possible admission.

    Financial Economics Major - Bachelor of Arts

    Major: Financial Economics

    The Bachelor of Arts major in financial economics centers around the academic study of economics as it applies to the realm of financial markets with a strong foundation in the theory and application of financial economic principles. Within the context of a liberal arts education, the program provides a deeper knowledge of economic theories and principles, history, institutions and world economy. It also prepares you to think critically about moral and ethical issues that affect financial markets.

    The credit hours earned for the completion of the Bachelor of Arts with a major in financial economics may not be counted toward the completion of either the Bachelor of Arts with a major in economics or for the minors in economics or financial economics.

    Accelerated 5-Year Bachelor's to Master's Programs

    Where Could You Be in Five Years?

    For ambitious, driven and career-minded incoming freshmen, University of Detroit Mercy offers two options to increase your knowledge and skills as a full-time student for 10 semesters (5 academic years) before entering the workforce:

    In order to complete both the bachelor's and master's degrees in five years, you must:

    • Be very well prepared as an incoming freshman or transfer student;
    • Satisfy all the admission criteria (see below); and
    • Maintain a cumulative 3.25 GPA at Detroit Mercy, in order to take graduate-level courses while still an undergraduate.

    This program allows incoming freshmen to complete both the bachelor's and master's degrees by being a full-time student for 5 academic years (10 consecutive semesters). Juniors at Detroit Mercy may be admitted into the program with the permission of the department and Dean’s Office.

    Requirements for Transfer Students

    Students transferring in from a community college require permission from the Dean's Office.

    In order to complete the bachelor's and master's degrees entering as a transfer student you must:

    • Have 60-63 transferable credits.
    • Meet the requirements for the Michigan Transfer Agreement (MTA).
    • Maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.25 throughout the entire undergraduate portion of the program, and a minimum GPA of 3.0 for graduate courses.
    • Maintain full-time status. This is typically 15-18 credit hours per semester, for a total of 102-108 credits for students entering as a senior.
    • Finish the bachelor's degree by the end of the fourth year and master's degree by the end of the fifth year. During your senior year, you can take up to two graduate level courses for each term with a maximum of four.
    Note:
    • Students can take summer courses if needed to catch up or advance.
    • Students are not required to apply for the graduate portion or take any exams such as GRE if they have met and maintained all accelerated program requirements.

    Accelerated 6-Year Law Scholars Program (3+3)

    Are you ready to accelerate your law career? Detroit Mercy’s innovative Accelerated 6-Year Law Scholars Program enables you to earn both a bachelor's degree and a Juris Doctor degree in only six years rather than the traditional seven. Economics is an approved major for this program. Students must meet program entrance criteria.
