Detroit Mercy's Master of Science in Information Technology conveys comprehensive professional knowledge and best practices with regard to Information Technology (IT) work and principles of leadership. Upon graduation, you will be able to create and oversee productive and continuously improving management control infrastructures for large, complex and diverse businesses.

This program’s content is derived from the Association for Computer Machinery (ACM) and the Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
A background in computer programming is not a requirement; the program teaches students what they need to know. This program is ideal for individuals with technical and non-technical backgrounds. You will dive deep into artificial intelligence, theoretical computer science, databases, programming languages, software engineering, systems and networks.

Online or On-Campus
All online classes are taught by Detroit Mercy’s faculty. You will also have access to a collaborative learning platform that features:

- Small-group break-out rooms
- Course content videos and recorded lectures
- All five core classes available online
The remaining electives for this degree program focus on areas of interest such as data analytics or cyber security. This program is also offered with a dual degree option for a Master’s in Business Administration (not available for online).
Are You an International Student Looking for a STEM/OPT Program?
Detroit Mercy's Master of Science in Information Technology is a qualified STEM program. By graduating from Detroit Mercy, students admitted to the program will be eligible for paid temporary work authorization in the United States via the OPT program.
The STEM/OPT extension is a 24-month period of temporary training that directly relates to an F-1 student's program of study in an approved STEM field. Optional Practical Training (OPT) is an opportunity for students studying in the United States with an F-1 visa to apply what they’ve learned in the real-world and count it towards valuable work experience. Certain F-1 students who receive STEM degrees may apply for up to a 24-month extension of their OPT. All F and M students that study in the United States need a Form I-20.

University of Detroit Mercy offers a dual degree option where students can earn a Master of Science in Information Technology and a Master of Business Administration. This degree option is designed to help business professionals expand their knowledge of the business environment along with the rapidly changing world of information technology.
